Thierry Neuville, who was the revelation of the 2009 Citroën Racing Trophy Benelux in 2009, will face new challenges in 2010. After building up some international experience to good effect over the last few months, the Belgian driver will break new ground by competing on the FIA Junior World Rally Championship at the wheel of a C2 Super 1600 prepared by automecASolutions and supported by the Belgian federation, the RACB.
A few years after a certain François Duval, Belgian driver Thierry Neuville has also come to the fore thanks to Citroën’s junior formulae. Having won the Citroën Racing Trophy in Belgium and impressed on both asphalt and gravel in France, as well as finishing second of the C2-R2 MAXs on the Rallye du Valais, Thierry Neuville had an intense 2009 season at the tender age of 21.
In 2010, the Belgian will contest five rounds of the Junior World Rally Championship at the wheel of a Citroën C2 Super 1600. The C2 has won three JWRC titles over the last five years, with Dani Sordo, Sébastien Ogier and Martin Prokop. Now navigated by Nicolas Klinger, the 2008 IRC champion co-driver, the young hopeful will have all the opportunity he needs to do well. “It’s an incredible chance for me,” said Thierry. “I am extremely happy and very grateful towards those who have chosen to help young drivers like me. I can assure everyone that I am going to do my utmost to justify people’s faith in me.”
Thierry Neuville and Nicolas Klinger’s World Championship programme will get underway in Turkey (15-18 April). Their Citroën C2 Super 1600 will also be at the start in Portugal, Bulgaria, Germany and France. Before then Thierry Neuville and Nicolas Klinger will be at the start of the Rallye Le Touquet Pas de Calais, the first round of the French Rally Championship, at the wheel of a Citroën C2-R2 MAX.
